The Elizabethan period will come alive for children and adults during a presentation on the history of falconry beginning at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at the La Habra Branch Library, 221 E. La Habra Blvd.

Falcon’s Court, a nonprofit organization that travels across the state teaching about the biology and characteristics of birds of prey, will present the “Art and Science of Falconry.”

Dressed as nobility from the 1500s, bird handlers will relate the 4,000-year history of falconry, one of the oldest field sports still practiced, said Tallon Knight, director of raptor education for Falcon’s Court.

Falconry is the art of training wild birds of prey to trust and hunt with humans, with roots based in the Middle East and Asia, he added.

Knight will introduce children to an owl, a bay wing hawk and an Egyptian lanner falcon during the program. Information: (562) 694-0078.
