Sybase Forms Subsidiary

Software firm Sybase Inc. of Emeryville, Calif., today will announce the formation of a subsidiary, IAnywhere Solutions, that will develop and sell mobile and wireless technologies and products for business users. The unit, also based in Emeryville, will include the firm’s Mobile and Embedded Computing division and will start with 300 employees and grow to 350 by the end of the year. In addition to the new subsidiary, Sybase will unveil plans for stepped-up staffing for wireless research and development, and the creation of an Innovation Fund to help bankroll promising mobile and wireless solutions at other companies.
