Earth Day Cleanup

Share

* More than 80 people gathered at Ormond Beach to clean up the trash for Earth Day. We collected six trash bins full of garbage.

I wish to thank everyone who came and helped to make the cleanup a great success. Surfrider Foundation provided the fliers, the disposable gloves and the trash bags. I’d also like to thank the Ventura County chapter of Parents Without Partners, Efrain Gore and the Oxnard City Corps, Jim Passinissi of the city of Port Hueneme for providing the trash bins, the men who came from the Point Mugu Naval Air Station and the teachers from the Ojai Valley School.

I wish to express my gratitude to Walter Wehtje, an expert on the Western snowy plover, who generously took his time to come to Ormond Beach and show me the areas we needed to avoid so as not to disturb the nesting of the endangered birds.

I also wish to thank Roma Armburst and Jean Harris of the Ormond Beach Observers, who helped inform the public about the cleanup and pitched in with the work.

I looked at Ormond Beach after the cleanup. It is the first time I have ever seen some areas of the beach free of trash in the 3 1/2 years I have lived here.

To everyone who helped, thank you very much. Your caring has made a difference in the world. You have made our planet a better place to live for all of God’s creatures.
