Winds Delay Flights of Rocket, Shuttle
Gusty winds at Kennedy Space Center, Fla., postponed the liftoff of a new Atlas 3 rocket, which in turn will delay this week’s planned shuttle mission. The maiden flight of the Lockheed Martin Atlas 3, the first U.S. launcher to be powered by a Russian rocket engine, was delayed for a second consecutive day. On Monday, a faulty radar delayed the launch. Lockheed Martin said it would make another attempt today at 5:37 p.m. EDT. That will force NASA to delay Thursday’s shuttle mission to repair the International Space Station.
