Strawberry pizza and strawberry shortcake will be a few of the edibles at the 17th annual California Strawberry Festival in Oxnard. The weekend event will also feature an arts and crafts area with more than 300 booths, a shortcake-eating contest and a canine Frisbee disc competition. An area called Strawberryland will captivate the kids with a petting zoo, puppet shows and more. Los Lobos (Sunday), Mickey Thomas (Saturday), the Fabulous Thunderbirds (Saturday) and the Association (Sunday) will be among the artists providing live musical entertainment.

Demonstrating impeccable timing, the Museum of Latin American Art presents “Contemporary Art From Cuba: Irony and Survival on the Utopian Island,” a new exhibition opening Saturday in Long Beach. Featuring works by 17 Cuban artists, the exhibition reflects the reality of daily life in Cuba through paintings, sculptures and installations by Belkis Ayon, Abel Barrosso, Los Carpinteros and KCHO, among others.

The centerpiece of the rapidly growing second annual International Performing Arts Festival for Youth: Family Arts Safari Day on Saturday at USC is Edmond Rostand’s “Cyrano,” for ages 10 and up, a collaboration between Belgium’s respected Blauw Vier Theatre and Seattle Children’s Theatre. There’s plenty else to see and do, for all ages, including performances of dance, comedy, Bali and Beyond shadow puppets, outdoor theater, workshops and multicultural hopscotch games.

More than 200 artists will display photographs, sculpture, jewelry, ceramics and other works at this weekend’s “Affaire in the Gardens” at Beverly Gardens Park in Beverly Hills. Featuring art displays and sales, the event will also feature live music on three stages, interactive art stations designed for children and an international food court. And while you’re in the neighborhood, rest your feet during the Beverly Hills Art and Architecture Trolley Tour, which stops at Beverly Hills landmarks such as Beverly Hills City Hall, the Creative Artists Agency, the Museum of Television & Radio and Gagosian Gallery.

The English band Supergrass arrived with a splash a few years ago, then faded from the U.S. landscape. The scrappy trio has carried on back in Britain, releasing hit records and earning accolades on stage, and now the band is back for another go at the States with its third album, “Supergrass.” Gaz Coombes, Mick Quinn and Danny Goffey will follow their blitz of L.A. nightclubs by jumping aboard Pearl Jam’s U.S. tour.
