Selestino A. Calzada; Mechanic Supervisor

Selestino A. Calzada, a retired heavy-duty mechanic supervisor, died Tuesday at Community Memorial Hospital in Ventura after a lengthy illness. He was 75.

Calzada was born Nov. 11, 1924, in Colton. When he was about 5 years old, he moved to Ventura, where he grew up and attended school.

During World War II, he served two years in the Army and received several medals for his participation in the Pacific campaign.

For 30 years after the war, he worked at the Construction Battalion Center at Port Hueneme as a supervising heavy-duty mechanic in the equipment center.

After retiring from the Navy base, he worked for the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department as an inmate records technician.

Calzada was a member of the American Legion. His hobbies included traveling.

He is survived by his wife, Gloria of Ventura; daughters Rebecca Bottorff, Sonia and Yasmin Calzada, all of Ventura; son James of Ventura; brothers Felix of Santa Paula, Alex of Redondo Beach, George of Anchorage, Alaska; and four grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m. today at Joseph P. Reardon Funeral Home in Ventura, which is handling the arrangements. A rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. tonight at Sacred Heart Church in Ventura.

Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. Friday at Sacred Heart Church in Ventura. Burial will follow at Santa Paula Cemetery with a reception following at the American Legion Hall at 83 S. Palm in Ventura.
