Prosecutors filed criminal charges Wednesday against a Lakewood woman who allegedly sold dangerous prescription drugs at her South-Central market without a license.

Jenny Sok Tae, 26, the owner of Sammy’s Market on South Avalon Boulevard, was charged with six counts of selling prescription and dangerous drugs without a license and offering misbranded drugs for sale, Deputy City Atty. P. Greg Parham said.

Police investigated Tae’s market after county health officials passed on a tip that she had prescription drugs for sale in a display case at the market.

Police posing as customers entered the market on Dec. 30, 1999, and bought antibiotics from Tae for $14 without a prescription, authorities said. A subsequent search of the market uncovered antibiotics, prescription creams, birth control pills and syringes, prosecutors said.

If convicted of all the charges, Tae faces up to six years in jail and $6,000 in fines.
