City workers plan to install a storm drain filter this morning as part of a pilot program to evaluate the effectiveness of the filters in reducing the amount of silt, debris and oil that gets into the storm drain system and eventually washes down to the ocean.

The demonstration is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. in the 200 block of Forest Avenue. Maintenance Products Inc. of Huntington Beach is performing the work for free. If the filters are effective, the city may consider their installation throughout Laguna Beach.
