Ben Vereen Heads Norris Fund-Raiser

Actor, singer and dancer Ben Vereen will be featured in the Norris Center for the Performing Arts’ annual celebrity concert and gala Saturday at 8 p.m. in Rolling Hills Estates.

The star of Broadway, television and film will headline the only fund-raising performance of the season, which supports all Norris Center programs, education and outreach activities.

Familiar to audiences for his portrayal of Chicken George in Alex Haley’s “Roots,” Vereen recently received the Eleanor Roosevelt Humanitarian Award, the Victory Award and a humanitarian award from Israel.

His theater credits include “Jelly’s Last Jam,” “Sweet Charity,” “Hair” and “Pippin,” for which he earned both a Tony as best actor in a musical and a Drama Desk Award.

After his appearance at the benefit, Vereen will meet audience members at a reception and buffet in the Harlyne J. Norris Pavilion adjacent to the center, located at 27570 Crossfield Drive.

Tickets are $85 for the concert only; $125 for the concert and reception.
