Drivers, take heed before speeding through Irvine intersections.
After months of delays, Irvine police have activated a pair of cameras near traffic signals along Alton Parkway. The electronic eyes are designed to capture red-light runners in the act, police said.
The two cameras--one video, one digital--were installed where Alton Parkway meets Muirlands and Gateway boulevards. Police will issue warnings to anyone caught trying to outrace a red light for the next 30 days.
Once the warning period ends, motorists who enter an intersection during a red light will be captured by the cameras and issued a $271 citation through the mail.
