To help curb urban runoff, the city is conducting household hazardous-waste collections.

By appointment through June 2, residents can leave motor oil, bleach, paint and antifreeze at their door for pickup. Reservations must be made by May 26. The city will pay $20,000 to have Curbside Inc. provide the collection service.

Collection times are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., excluding weekends. In-home assistance is available for seniors and disabled residents. Explosives, ammunition, tires, and biological and radioactive wastes will not be accepted. To schedule a pickup, call (800) 449-7587.

The city encourages residents to drop off their hazardous waste throughout the rest of the year at one of four permanent collection centers in Irvine, San Juan Capistrano, Anaheim and Huntington Beach. For more information about collection centers, call (714) 834-6752.
