City officials have changed the location of the annual Heritage Parade. This year’s October parade and festival will be at Tri-City Park, a larger recreation area.

The move from Kraemer Park, decided the Heritage Parade Committee, has sparked disapproval from some residents who believer the community was not consulted before the decision was made.

“This is our parade. It’s a tradition to have it here,” said an angry Crystal Tobar, a longtime Placentia resident. Tobar and four others plan to circulate a petition to stop the move. City officials said the number of attendees has outgrown Kraemer Park. The city plans to provide shuttle transportation for residents in the Kraemer Park area.

Council Members Chris Lowe and Maria Moreno supported the change. Lowe said it would allow more people to enjoy the celebration.

Moreno said she was not aware that people had strong concerns against the move and said the park switch is an experiment. “As far as I understand, if this doesn’t work, we have the option of changing it back,” she said.
