Downey Savings Bags Deal With Albertson’s

Downey Savings & Loan said Thursday that it will install up to 40 mini-branches inside Albertson’s Inc. supermarkets, raising the Newport Beach S&L;’s network to 144 branches statewide.

Downey said the move is intended to enhance convenience for its customers. The installations will begin in Northern California and move south. All in-store branches are expected to open by the end of next year.

In 1996, Downey opened the first of its in-store branches, which today are in Ralphs, Food4Less, Gelson’s, Vons and Albertsons grocery stores.
