Traffic engineer Dave Rogers will send out a letter warning residents of the Kings Road neighborhood to slow down. Traffic commissioners voted unanimously Wednesday night to approve the mailing as part of a response to complaints about speeding on Kings Road, which has single-family homes on both sides.
A study showed that drivers--mostly locals--regularly exceed the 25-mph limit on Kings Road. The use of radar displays has decreased average speed by 2 mph. Since most of the traffic on the street is generated by neighborhood residents, the mailing should reach most of the speeders, Rogers said.
The road gets a higher volume of traffic than a typical residential street because it is one of only two exit points from the neighborhood, Rogers said. The next Traffic Commission meeting is set for 7 p.m. July 26 in Council Chambers at City Hall, 27841 La Paz Road.
