Despite the lack of representation from Orange Unified School District officials, City Hall was full of concerned community members during a Tuesday night meeting about the contract dispute between the district and its teachers.

About 180 teachers, parents and other concerned residents attended the meeting organized by Orange City Councilman Michael Alvarez and the Informed Parents Assn.

Orange Unified Education Assn. President John Rossmann and Bill Shanahan, executive director of the union, answered questions, along with Orange County Auditor-Controller David Sundstrom, who has studied the district’s budget, and Jim Brown, dean of the school of education at Chapman University.

Councilmen Alvarez and Dan Slater also answered questions from audience members, who inquired about teacher health benefits, the hiring of non-credentialed teachers and district finances.
