Taking Sides

Share

There was a time when I believed that with work, determination and help from the City Council we could turn around the Westside of Costa Mesa.

The Westside has high density, overcrowded schools whose scores were the lowest in the state and traffic congestion unrivaled anywhere else in the city.

We have drugs, gangs and the graffiti. We have slums and homeless, children with nowhere to go, seniors afraid to walk the streets.

The Westside Improvement Assn. recently put in a plan to slowly reduce the high density and regain the pride we once had.

However, it is easy to see that the only place considered decent enough to get action from this City Council is Mesa Verde. They first complained about 90 homes and the developer scaled back his plans. Developers do not scale back plans. This one did. How very odd.

If we must rise in one united body, then let’s do so. November is not that far away, and we could for once in our lives make a difference. Let’s make it happen.
