Veronica Johns-Richardson, a 5-foot-10 guard from Troy High, Kristen Mann, a 6-2 forward from Foothill, and Lindsay Geoffroy, a 6-6 center from Los Alamitos, have been invited to the 2000 USA Women’s Junior National team trials June 9-12 at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs.

Forty-two players who are 18 or younger, including six who were named to USA Today’s 2000 high school All-America teams, were invited to participate. Finalists begin training July 14 for the Women’s Junior World Championship qualifying tournament in Mar del Plata, Argentina, July 26-30. The top three finishers from the eight-team Americas zone qualifying tournament will qualify for the July 2001 Junior World Championship for women to be held in the Czech Republic.

The USA Basketball Juniors will be coached Geno Auriemma, who led Connecticut to an NCAA title this year.

Johns-Richardson averaged 18.4 points and seven assists, Mann averaged 19.9 points and 9.9 rebounds, and Geoffroy split time between volleyball and basketball.
