PG’s Just the Ticket

It’s shaping up as a PG and PG-13 (i.e., kid-friendly ticket policies) summer. “M:I-2,” “Shanghai Noon,” “Big Momma’s House,” “The Perfect Storm” and “The Replacements” have all been rated PG-13 by the Motion Picture Assn. of America, as has “Gone in Sixty Seconds” (Angelina Jolie’s first non-R-rated movie since 1995’s “Hackers”). The animated “Titan A.E.” is PG; the clay-animated “Chicken Run” is a G. Other big summer films likely to get PG or PG-13 ratings include “The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle” and “X-Men.” For racier fare, an R has been bestowed on the Farrelly brothers’ raunchy comedy “Me, Myself and Irene” and the action film “Shaft,” with Samuel L. Jackson in the title role.

Animation Premiere

“Heavy Metal 2000,” the animated sequel to the 1981 cult classic, will premiere Tuesday on the opening night of the World Animation Celebration at the Egyptian Theater in Hollywood. The original featured music by Blue Oyster Cult, Journey, Cheap Trick, Sammy Hagar and Black Sabbath; the new film is voiced by B-movie actress Julie Strain, Michael Ironside and ‘80s rocker Billy Idol. New animated works from Poland, Japan, the Czech Republic, Belgium and the U.S. will screen as part of the celebration, which runs through June 4. Information: https://www.wacfest.com.

Holiday Releases, Part 2

Last week we reported that the movie release schedule for the pre-Fourth of July weekend is looking crowded, but further ahead, Dec. 15 is proving an even higher-profile date. So far the lineup includes Paramount’s “What Women Want” (Mel Gibson, Helen Hunt), Universal’s “Family Man” (Nicolas Cage), Warner Bros.’ “Proof of Life” (Russell Crowe, Meg Ryan) and Miramax’s “Chocolat” (Johnny Depp, Juliette Binoche).
