Reflections on Million Mom March

Share

Re the Million Mom March.

I don’t really know how to properly relay what happened in Washington, D.C., on May 14. Together and united, we made history--the largest grass-roots demonstration in D.C., ever.

With an unofficial count of 750,000 demonstrators on the Mall plus those who attended in some 70 cities around the country, including almost 5,000 in Westwood and at least 3,000 at Olvera Street in Los Angeles, we definitely exceeded our own expectations.

The march in D.C. was an emotional roller coaster. Bittersweet, joyous and jubilant at times because of the enormously successful attendance. I hope that Congress heard us loud and clear, that we are no longer being ignored and that we have pro-gun lobbies on the run. But it was so incredibly sad to hear the testimonials of those who have lost loved ones to gun violence.

The good news is: We are a million strong and we vote! Our work is not done until those who oppose common-sense gun control are voted out and we educate to dispel the myths and lies being circulated by pro-gun, special-interest groups.
