The city’s Community Services Commission will meet tonight to consider new policies for installing telecommunications towers and wireless facilities.

The new policy, similar to ones in San Clemente, Laguna Niguel, Mission Viejo and other cities, would allow the placement of wireless communication facilities in community and neighborhood parks--subject to review and approval by the Planning Commission or city zoning administrator. Policy changes could include requiring use of “stealth techniques” to keep the towers from view, such as mounting them on buildings or disguising them as trees, clock towers or other structures.

The commission will meet at 6:30 p.m. in the council chambers at City Hall, 1 Civic Center Plaza.
