Regals Fall in West Regional, 2-0

Buffy Morris scored two goals in the second half and host Willamette eliminated Cal Lutheran, 2-0, on Saturday in the semifinals of the NCAA Division III women’s soccer West regional at Salem, Ore.

Morris used her left foot while falling to the ground to brush the ball past goalkeeper Pamela Clark in the 54th minute after she used her right foot to knock down a pass from Heather Ebert.

Morris beat Clark on a penalty kick in the 84th minute for her 23rd goal.

Clark made two saves for the No. 19-ranked Regals (16-4-1), who were outshot, 15-9.

Shelby Springer made two saves in recording her 15th shutout of the season.

No. 8-ranked Willamette (18-2-1) meets unranked Chapman (17-4-1) in the championship game today.

In another women’s soccer game:

Loyola Marymount 1, Pepperdine 0--Laura Trask scored in the 55th minute from eight yards in a West Coast Conference game at Loyola Marymount.

Cheri Phillips made three saves for Pepperdine (13-6-1, 2-5 in conference play).

Tracy Sharp made five saves for Loyola Marymount (12-6-1, 5-2).

MEN’S WATER POLO

USC 7, Pepperdine 3--Scott Harvey, Michael Hausmann and Peter Joseph scored for the Waves in the last five minutes of a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation game at Pepperdine.

Tim Wollthan scored twice for the Trojans (16-4, 5-2).

Pepperdine dropped to 10-8, 2-4.

WOMEN’S VOLLEYBALL

Moorpark def Cuesta, 15-5, 15-2, 15-11--Carinol Nusinov had 22 kills and 15 digs for the Raiders in a Western State Conference Northern Division match at Moorpark.

Toni Ann Merendino had nine kills and 14 digs for Moorpark (15-1, 12-0).
