Task Force Seizes Cash, Bogus Trademark Items

Sheriff’s Department investigators seized cash and several hundred thousand dollars worth of counterfeit merchandise Wednesday from four locations around the city.

Detectives in the Asian Crime Task Force also arrested Chang Hoon Shin on suspicion of manufacturing trademark items, said Deputy Harry Drucker. Most of the seized material consisted of baseball and ski caps, he added.

Drucker said the merchandise was made in a warehouse in the 2900 block of Allesandro Street in Glassell Park and distributed at three other locations. At one downtown storefront, detectives found $50,000 in cash and several hundred thousand caps with various logos, including Nike and pro team labels, Drucker said.

The locations of the other raided sites were unavailable Wednesday.

Detectives learned of the locations and merchandise from an anonymous source, Drucker said. The investigation will continue, he added.

“Due to the large amount of items seized, you could tell it was a huge operation,” he said.
