UCI School of Arts Renamed for Actress

Share

The UC Irvine School of the Arts has been renamed the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, university officials announced Thursday. The change honors the Academy Award- and Emmy Award-winning actress who, together with the Bren family, has donated $7.5 million to the arts school. (Donald Bren, chairman of the Irvine Company, is Trevor’s stepson.) Another $2.5 million toward the goal of $10 million will be sought for the arts school’s on-going capital campaign.

Of the gift, $5 million was donated by the Claire Trevor Family Foundation and the rest by the Donald Bren Family Foundation.

The gift will provide discretionary funds for the school, establish three endowed professorships and support a partnership program with local schools.

Trevor appeared in more than 60 films between 1933 and 1987, winning a best supporting actress Oscar in 1948 for her performance in “Key Largo.” She died in April at the age of 90.
