Realtors Gear Up for Toy-Collection Drive

The Conejo Valley Assn. of Realtors will kick off its 2000 Toys for Tots campaign at 8 a.m. Friday at its offices.

A Marine Corps representative will receive a ceremonial toy from the group’s president at the association offices, 463 Pennsfield Place in Thousand Oaks. Association members will then distribute toy bins to real estate offices around the Conejo Valley, Moorpark and Simi Valley, and to most Conejo Valley schools in Thousand Oaks.

Toys and other items will be collected at all 50 sites until Dec. 15, when various social service agencies in the east county will pick them up for distribution through the holiday season. Gifts for youths up to age 18 are accepted--everything from toy trucks and sporting goods to perfume and cologne, said Brent Davis, campaign chairman. The social service agencies distribute the toys to needy children throughout the east county, Davis said.

“It makes Christmas for them,” he said.

The realty association has sponsored the Toys for Tots campaign in the Conejo Valley for 14 years.

Last year, the campaign collected between 6,000 and 7,000 toys, Davis said. Toys for Tots was founded in Los Angeles by the Marine Corps in 1947.
