Golf Course Cuts Fees During Renovation

Share

Operators of the city-owned Los Robles Golf Course have a message for local golf enthusiasts: We’re open.

Since a $11.6-million renovation of the links began in late October, use has dropped off by more than 70%, said Thousand Oaks Finance Director Candis Hong.

Hong had initially anticipated a 50% revenue reduction--about $900,000--as a result of half of the course being under construction for nine months.

Hoping to curb that downward trend, the City Council this week approved a promotions plan that will advertise greatly reduced rates for rounds of golf, cart rentals and use of the driving range during the renovation.

Starting Monday, Thousand Oaks residents can play 18 holes at Los Robles for $10, which is just one of a list of discounts.

Council members authorized Hong to come up with other promotions as needed, including a frequent players’ card or raffle-type drawings.

The renovated links are set to open July 1.
