Record Imports at Port of Long Beach

This year’s record holiday import shipping season finished with a flourish in October at the Port of Long Beach, which handled 15% more inbound cargo containers last month than a year ago, port officials said. October typically closes the port’s four-month peak import season, during which manufacturers in Asia send consumer goods for the holiday shopping season. This year, Long Beach took in more than 235,000 import containers, contrasted with more than 204,000 a year earlier. Exports were also up 5% to hit 88,500 20-foot containers. Last week, the neighboring Port of Los Angeles reported it took in 26% more import containers in October than it did last year.
