City Questions Plan for Airport Terminal

Burbank officials raised objections Wednesday to Burbank Airport’s proposed new terminal building, saying the airport filed an incomplete land-use application with the city.

In a letter to the airport, city redevelopment director Robert M. Tague asks the airport to provide additional information to the city within 30 days or risk delaying public hearings on the matter.

Tague said the city needs a more complete site plan, as well as more details about the number of handicap parking spaces, proposed landscaping areas and energy savings.

Burbank officials were not available for comment Wednesday. Victor Gill, a spokesman for the Burbank--Glendale-Pasadena Airport Authority, said he had not seen the letter and also would not comment.

Airport officials are preparing to sell the former Lockheed property, which the authority purchased last year for $86 million for a new terminal.

A development agreement between the city and the airport requires the Airport Authority to put the property up for sale because it failed to reach an agreement with Burbank officials by the May 24 deadline.

But the property has not sold yet, which may give the authority a second chance to seek approval for its development as a terminal site. The authority also may seek to find a new site for the replacement terminal.
