Thanksgiving Serves Up Rain, Snow

For some Americans, Thanksgiving turned out to be inclement, at least in terms of weather.

Among those hardest hit by unsettled conditions were people in New Mexico.

Travelers found themselves stalled by a blanket of snow that combined with rain to snarl traffic on Interstate 40, one of two main highways through the state.

Elsewhere in northern New Mexico and southern Colorado, snow showers were scattered throughout the mountains.

Rain fell in southern Missouri, Arkansas, Louisiana and in the eastern and north-central parts of Texas, as a storm system moving into eastern New Mexico contributed to the moist conditions.

In the Southeast, a subtropical jet stream brought mostly cloudy skies throughout states along the Gulf of Mexico and in North Florida, with some isolated showers near the Gulf Coast.

Mostly cloudy conditions prevailed in the Great Lakes through northern New England, with isolated snow showers in northern Michigan and a few flurries over the remainder of the region.

Skies were dry and partly cloudy from lower New England to the Ohio Valley and the mid-Atlantic states.

Temperatures in the Lower 48 states ranged from a low of 11 degrees below zero at West Yellowstone, Wyo., to a high of 80 degrees in Harlingen, Texas. The lowest wind chill was 21 below zero, at Livingston, Mont.
