Can’t Get No Respect

There is still no respect shown for any “boy band” just because they are a group of extremely talented teenagers. In Natalie Nichols’ review of “Black & Blue” (Record Rack, Nov. 22), the group targeted is the Backstreet Boys.

I believe that Nichols is mistaken on a couple of points. First and foremost, the Backstreet Boys are very well aware that the Stones had an album with the same title in 1976. This was stated very clearly in a recent KIIS-FM radio interview when Brian Littrell said, “We knew that the Stones had this title back in ’76 but it has nothing to do with that. This was just a title we came up with while we were joking around at a photo shoot!”

Another point: The lyrics that the Backstreet Boys write have some feeling and meaning to them. They are the type of band that doesn’t need curse words to prove their points or to show how they feel. They may be another group of teeny-boppers to Nichols, but they have shown a great amount of maturity, and this album represents all that they’ve been through.
