Most memorable games
Nov. 28, 1998
USC 10, Notre Dame 0: Chad Morton rushed for 100 of his 128 yards in the second half, and the USC defense was at its best in the win. It was the first time USC had blanked Notre Dame since winning a 25-0 decision en route to the national championship in 1962. Fighting Irish quarterback Jarious Jackson did not play because of a knee injury.
*
Dec. 31, 1998
TCU 28, USC 19 (Sun Bowl): The Horned Frogs, 16-point underdogs, barely qualified for postseason play but had little trouble defeating the Trojans. USC was held to a Sun Bowl record minus-23 yards rushing in the game, as TCU took a 28-3 lead in the third and coasted to the win.
*
Oct. 16, 1999
Notre Dame 25, USC 24: Trojans led, 24-3, midway through the third before the Fighting Irish scored 22 unanswered points to win. It was Notre Dame’s biggest comeback win in 21 years, and gave Hackett his first two-game losing streak since becoming Trojan coach.
*
Nov. 20, 1999
UCLA 17, UCLA 7: Trojans end an eight-game losing streak to the Bruins thanks to two touchdown passes from John Fox to Kareem Kelly and 143 rushing yards by Chad Morton. It was USC’s first win over the Bruins since 1990 and the first over UCLA in the Coliseum since 1987.
*
Nov. 4, 2000
USC 44, Arizona St. 38 (OT): The Trojans had a 35-6 lead with 8:35 to go in the third quarter when Arizona State stormed back to tie, scoring 22 fourth-quarter points. USC won on Chad Pierson’s two-yard run in the second overtime.
