Share

Limited doses of flu vaccine will be available next week at community clinics set up in Oxnard and Camarillo.

Staff from St. John’s Regional Medical Center in Oxnard and St. John’s Pleasant Valley Hospital in Camarillo will follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines for administering the shots, which are scheduled to be given Tuesday and Dec. 6. Two additional dates will be announced later.

The Tuesday clinic will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Ventura County Council on Aging offices at 4917 Rose Ave. in Oxnard. A clinic the following day will be held at the same time at Camarillo Community Center at 1605 E. Burnley St.

The community clinics come amid a national shortage of the influenza vaccine, coupled with a high demand by the public.

Eligibility to receive the vaccine is limited to those 65 and older and people with serious illness, along with pregnant women in their second and third trimesters and residents of nursing homes and chronic-care facilities.

Shots are $10 each. St. John’s personnel can bill the recipient’s Medicare Part B for the flu shot if he or she does not belong to a senior health maintenance organization.
