From Times Wire Reports

The Philippine Senate denied President Joseph Estrada’s motion to dismiss impeachment charges accusing him of corruption and said his trial will begin Dec. 7. Estrada’s lawyers submitted the motion last week, arguing that the impeachment complaint should be thrown out because the House of Representatives did not hold a vote before sending it to the Senate. But the 22-member Senate unanimously rejected the motion. Last month, Estrada was accused of accepting millions of dollars in gambling payoffs and kickbacks from tobacco taxes. He says he is innocent.
