Madonna will be the guest on the inaugural installment of “Ground Zero,” the new KCRW-FM (89.9) show hosted by the station’s former music director, Chris Douridas, airing Saturday at noon. The segment, which will be the show’s second hour, will feature demo versions of songs and a discussion with Madonna and her producers about the evolution of the material. The show will also be available starting Oct. 10 on the Internet channel Ground Zero on AOL’s Spinner.com, where Douridas is now vice president of music programming. . . .

The Black Crowes, having canceled the remainder of their tour with Jimmy Page due to the guitarist’s back injury, have begun work on a new album in New York with producer Don Was. Singer Chris Robinson reports that the choice of Was doesn’t represent a change in direction, but that the band is trying to regain the consistent rock-roots quality of its early albums. The new one, the band’s first for V2 Records, is due in the spring. . . .

While DJ Shadow finishes his next album, the DJ-producer will issue a limited-edition single of his theme to the independent movie “Dark Days.” It will be given free to people attending the movie’s showings, including a stint at L.A.’s Nuart Theatre beginning Oct. 27. The film by director Marc Singer documents the lives of homeless people in an abandoned Manhattan train tunnel. It won several awards at this year’s Sundance Festival.
