Syndication Jungle

Fueled by the success of “Judge Judy,” the syndication docket is filled with new court shows, from “Moral Court” with Larry Elder to “Power of Attorney” with Gloria Allred and Christopher Darden. But it is the controversial TV debut of radio talk show’s Laura Schlessinger, “Dr. Laura,” that has drawn the most heat this season. Dramas include a new sci-fi thriller starring Kevin “Hercules” Sorbo. And Dick Wolf, the creator of “Law & Order,” throws his hat into the syndication ring with the reality series, “Arrest & Trial.”

Here’s a look at what’s new in syndication for the fall.

COURT SERIES

“Judge Hatchett”: Court TV series features Judge Glenda Hatchett, who offers rulings on cases involving truancy, divorce, custody, drugs and other social issues. Premiered, KTTV.

“Power of Attorney”: Legal series gives everyday people the chance be to represented by well-known lawyers. Judge Andrew P. Napolitano presides; with Gloria Allred, Christopher Darden and Ed Masry (“Erin Brockovich”) among the featured attorneys. Premiered, KTTV.

“Curtis Court”: The Honorable James Curtis, a California prosecutor, presides over this Court TV series, which has Curtis examining the elements of cases from around the country. Premiered, KCBS.

“Moral Court”: Radio host Larry Elder anchors the hourlong series which promises drama, emotion and the “excitement of a game show.” Monday, KCAL.

REALITY SERIES

“Arrest & Trial”: This dramatic-reality series from “Law & Order’s” Dick Wolf offers an inside look into criminal cases, telling stories from the perspective of detectives and prosecutors. Brian Dennehy hosts. Monday, KCOP.

“Maximum Exposure”: Weekly hourlong video series features caught-on-tape moments culled from Paramount’s library, including footage from home videos, store security cameras, international news agencies, law enforcement and government agencies. Oct. 8, KCOP.

TALK SHOWS

“House Calls”: Veteran psychiatrist and relationship expert Dr. Irvin Wolkoff counsels families and couples in trouble. Premiered, KCOP.

“Dr. Laura”: Radio talk-show host Dr. Laura Schlessinger is the star of this hourlong series, which has triggered protests and heated debates because of her opinions on gays, abortion, sex and marriage. Premiered, KCBS.

“Men Are From Mars, Women Are From Venus”: Cybill Shepherd hosts an hourlong series inspired by John Gray’s bestseller that explores the conflicts between the sexes and looks at conflict resolution. Monday, KNBC.

DRAMAS

“Gene Roddenberry’s Andromeda”: Kevin Sorbo of “Hercules: The Legendary Journeys” returns to TV in this science-fiction adventure based on the writings of the late “Star Trek” creator, Gene Roddenberry. Sorbo is the last starship captain of a government that spans three galaxies and hundreds of cultures. Saturday, KTLA.

“The Immortal”: Lorenzo Lamas stars in this hourlong action-adventure comedy that follows a man’s eternal quest to conquer the forces of evil. Oct. 8, KNBC.

“Sheena”: Gena Lee Nolin, late of “Baywatch,” stars as the legendary queen of the jungle in this action-adventure about a young orphan who grows up to be a beautiful defender of the jungle. Saturday, KABC.

“Queen of Swords”: This female take on the “Zorro” legend stars Tessie Santiago behind the mask. Saturday, KCOP.

GAME SHOWS

“To Tell the Truth”: John O’Hurley of “Seinfeld” fame hosts this new version of the classic game show. Paula Poundstone and Meshach Taylor will be the anchor panelists. Premiered, KCAL.

“Street Smarts”: Frank Nicotero hosts this series which blends stand-up comedy, improvisation and game-show interaction. Monday, KTLA.
