Cal Lutheran University will host a series of workshops intended for teens who are aspiring filmmakers.

The four-session Teen Filmmakers Workshop, beginning Saturday at the campus, will focus on basic video production, writing and directing, said Janet Meyer, coordinator of the university’s continuing and professional education department.

Classes are open to teenagers ages 15 to 18. Students will learn to write, arrange, videotape and edit 30-second public service announcements. In addition to working individually, the students will collaborate on each other’s projects.

The workshop is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturdays through Oct. 28. Independent filmmaker and teacher David Massey will lead the workshop.

Massey, nominated for an Academy Award in 1991 for his short film “Last Breeze of Summer,” will focus on the entire process of film and video production.

The Thousand Oaks workshop is open to teens with all levels of expertise. Cameras will be provided, or students may bring their own. For more information, call 493-3130.
