Trying to Put Logic With Polls? Good Luck

Let me see if I understand the college football polls:

Four teams ranked ahead of UCLA lost last weekend.

UCLA beat a previously undefeated Arizona State team.

Three of the four previously mentioned teams remain ranked ahead of UCLA.

Nine ranked teams lost last weekend, with seven of them losing to unranked teams.

UCLA dropped one spot in the AP poll, despite its win.

And people say sportswriters lack common sense and brains.

While I applaud and respect Jermaine Lewis for responsible fatherhood, I don’t think it is a good idea to make the topic front-page news [“Father’s Time, Oct. 3]. Should our young athletes read Page 1 stories about living with your girlfriend/boyfriend and having children out of wedlock? Jermaine’s responsible parenting is the exception, not the rule.
