Estancia Shuts Out Orange, 43-0

Share

Estancia used a balanced offense and a strong defensive effort to shut out Orange, 43-0, Friday at El Modena.

Operating out of a three-wide receiver spread formation early in the game, Estancia quarterback Kenny Valbuena completed his first five passes. The Eagles’ first touchdown, however, came on Valbuena’s one-yard run midway through the first quarter. Fahad Jahid followed that up with a six-yard touchdown run on the first play of the second quarter.

Estancia Coach Dave Perkins said the spread offense gave his team an advantage. “We thought we could open up the running game if we could complete some early passes,” he said.

Linebacker David Stoddard intercepted his second pass of the game and returned it 33 yards for a touchdown late in the first half. Javier Ramirez’s extra point gave Estancia a 22-0 halftime lead.

Wide receiver Kyle Casillas extended the lead early in the third quarter with a 66-yard touchdown reception from Valbuena.

Estancia (3-2) held Orange (0-5) to 19 yards rushing in 35 carries. Cesar Romero had a sack and a fumble recovery.

Perkins credited his players for the victory. “They had a great week of practice after a tough loss [to Santa Ana Valley],” he said.

Terry Franklin of Orange caught three passes for 46 yards.
