Ocean View Names New Board Member
Ocean View Elementary School District trustees have appointed an Oxnard College professor to replace board member Dennis Schlotfelt, who stepped down in August.
Schlotfelt moved out of the district’s south Oxnard attendance area this summer and was no longer qualified to serve as a trustee. There are three years left in the term.
The remaining board members voted unanimously last week to appoint James Merrill, an English professor at Oxnard College. He has chaired the Tierra Vista Neighborhood Council for the past five years and served as the campaign coordinator for the school district’s successful 1997 bond campaign.
Merrill has lived in south Oxnard with his wife for 14 years. Their two children attend Oxnard schools.
An election will be held to fill the seat in November 2001. Merrill will hold the position until then.
