Camarillo Library Friends to Hold Book Sale

* Camarillo Friends of the Library will host a fall book sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today under a big white tent at Daily Drive and Las Posas Road in Camarillo. All books will be sold at half price. Proceeds will benefit the Camarillo Library. Information: 482-5919.

Family Services Group Needs Volunteers

* Interface Children Family Services of Ventura County will hold an orientation for prospective volunteers from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and again Oct. 24 at 1305 Del Norte Road, No. 130, Camarillo. Volunteers are needed to assist in crisis counseling and intervention to runaways, families and women; mediation services and training; youth mentoring, information and referrals, and to work as office assistants. Literacy Program Plans Tutor Workshop

* Conejo Valley Adult School Literacy Program offers a free literacy tutor workshop from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at the Conejo Valley Adult School, Room B, 1025 Old Farm Road], Thousand Oaks. The workshop will prepare volunteers to tutor adults in basic literacy skills. Each volunteer will be asked to commit to a minimum of two tutoring hours each week. Information: 374-1161.

Laubach Literacy Offers Tutors Training

* Laubach Literacy of Ventura County will hold free English as a Second Language training for volunteer tutors starting with an orientation at 7 p.m. Thursday at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 755 Bard Road, Port Hueneme. Two workshops will follow, with the first on Saturday and the second Nov. 11. Neither teaching experience nor the ability to speak a foreign language is necessary. Information: 385-9584.

Child Center to Present ‘Discovery Day’

* Moorpark College’s Child Development Center will hold Discovery Day, its semiannual fund-raiser, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 7075 Campus Road. The cost is $4 for children, $2 for adults. Toy maker Gene West will visit, the college’s Exotic Animal Training Management program will showcase animals from 11 a.m. to noon, and the Sunshine Band will perform from noon to 1 p.m. The day will also include mining for gold, digging for fossils and blasting off in a spaceship. Women’s Club to Hold Card Party in Ojai

* The Ojai Valley Women’s Club will hold its annual fund-raising luncheon and card party at 11 a.m. Saturday at 441 E. Ojai Ave., Ojai. The cost is $15 per person. Proceeds will go toward scholarships for female students. Information: 649-2164.

Autism Society Plans Fund-Raiser

* Kids and U of Camarillo will host a fund-raiser for the Ventura County Autism Society from 4 to 8 p.m. Oct. 15 at Camarillo Village Shopping Center, 2508 Las Posas Road. Ventura Library Friends to Sell Used Books

* Ventura Friends of the Library will sponsor used-book sales Oct. 21 and 28 in the parking lot of the H. P. Wright Library, 57 Day Road, Ventura. The Oct. 21 sale will feature good quality hardback books, including poetry and art books. The Oct. 28 sale will feature more paperback and children’s books. Both sales run from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and proceeds benefit Ventura libraries. Information: 659-5103.

Youth Foundation Offers Tennis Marathon

* The Ojai Valley Youth Foundation will hold the first Ojai Tennis Marathon from noon to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 11 at the Ojai Valley Athletic Club and in Libbey Park in Ojai. The event is open to anyone ready to play 50 games of tennis in one day. The day includes a free tennis clinic, numerous prizes, polo shirts and a barbecue dinner. Players collect sponsors, and prizes will be awarded to those who raise more than $20 per game, or $1,000. There is no entry fee. Proceeds are applied to Ojai Valley Youth Foundation’s programs. Chamber of Commerce Calls for Volunteers

* The Moorpark Chamber of Commerce is looking for volunteers to assist the business community out of their homes or from the chamber’s offices by answering phones, typing, stuffing envelopes, calling members for events, meeting clients and other projects.
