Richard Evelyn Gully; Columnist and Publicist

Richard Evelyn Gully, 93, longtime publicist and chronicler of the Southern California social scene. Born in London, Gully was first cousin to former British Prime Minister Anthony Eden. After being educated in Switzerland and Germany, he emigrated to the United States. He served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, was present on Utah Beach on D-Day, and won the Bronze Star. He was later awarded the Legion of Honor by France. After the war, Gully worked in the motion picture business as a personal assistant to Jack L. Warner, the head of Warner Bros. studios. In 1959, he formed a public relations firm that represented celebrities such as Angie Dickinson, Burt Bacharach, Jill St. John and Darren McGavin. For the last several years, he was a society columnist for the publications Beverly Hills (213) and Newport Beach (714). On Wednesday of heart failure after a long illness at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
