Boy Rescued From Pool Is in Critical Condition

A 1-year-old boy was in critical condition Monday night after nearly drowning in a backyard pool, authorities said.

The boy was discovered by his mother around 5 p.m. face-down at the bottom of the pool behind his family’s home on Morrison Street near Woodley Avenue, according to Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman Bob Collis. “The mother says the child was out of her sight for one minute,” Collis said.

A neighbor who heard the mother’s screams came over, pulled the boy from the pool, found he was not breathing, and performed mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

The boy began breathing again, and was crying by the time he was airlifted to Childrens Hospital, Collis said.
