* Clementine Koontz; Child-Care Center Owner

Clementine A. Koontz, a child-care center owner, died Thursday at her home in Oxnard following a long illness. She was 85.

She was born on July 9, 1915 in Fayette County, W.Va., and lived in Ventura County for the past 56 years.

She and her husband, Burnes, moved to California in 1941, and three years later moved to Oxnard.

For more than 25 years she owned a child-care center in Port Hueneme. Later, she and her husband operated a sporting goods store until her retirement in 1970. After her husband retired in 1975, the couple spent 20 years traveling together.

She was a lifetime member of the PTA, the First Presbyterian Church of Oxnard, the Oxnard Women’s Club and the Oxnard Activity Club.

Koontz was preceded in death by grandson James P. Koontz of Torrington, Conn.

In addition to her husband of 68 years, she is survived by son Jim of Newbury Park; daughter Marion Seaman of Camarillo; brother Lacy Myles of Fernley, Nev.; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

A memorial service is scheduled at 2 p.m. Friday at the First Presbyterian Church of Oxnard.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary in Camarillo.
