Madeline M. Palotay; Homemaker

Madeline M. Palotay, a homemaker, died Monday in Thousand Oaks after a long illness. She was 83.

She was born Oct. 28, 1916, in Clyde, Kan., where she grew up and went to school.

Later she graduated from Marymount College in Salina, Kan., as a home economics major.

During World War II, she served in the Army as a dietitian. She was stationed in England and during that time met her future husband, Richard Palotay, who was an Army dentist. After the war, the couple married in La Jolla.

They raised three children in Playa del Rey before moving to Thousand Oaks.

She enjoyed fishing in Bishop, attending the theater and traveling.

Palotay was preceded in death by her husband in 1990.

She is survived by son Marc of Simi Valley; daughters Joanne Duncan of Broomfield, Colo., and Bette Honea of Simi Valley; and eight grandchildren.

Funeral Mass is scheduled at 10 a.m. today at St. Pascal Baylon Catholic Church in Thousand Oaks. Burial will be at the Los Angeles National Cemetery.

Arrangements are under the direction of Pierce Bros. Griffin Mortuary in Thousand Oaks.
