Couple Give $71,000 for Computer Lab

A $71,000 donation by a Granada Hills couple will allow John F. Kennedy High School to build a new computer lab outfitted with state-of-the-art equipment, officials said Thursday.

Marilyn and Ward Brewer wanted to show their appreciation to Kennedy for the education their son and daughter received when they attended the school in the 1980s, Assistant Principal Pete Fries said. The Brewers made their gift this week.

Fries said he believed the donation is the largest the school has ever received from a family. It will buy 31 new computers, an Internet access server, nine printers, six scanners and a projector, he said. Although the 2,600-student school has two computer labs, it needed more equipment for a ninth-grade introductory computer class, he said. The lab will accommodate 30 students and a teacher.

“It’s absolutely fantastic,” Fries said. “It helps meet our needs to provide computer literacy to all our students.”
