Bush and Gore Claims

Amid his other debate falsehoods, George W. Bush claims that IMF loans went straight into Victor Chernomyrdin’s pocket. Turns out the guy was no longer in office by the time the first of those IMF dollars arrived in Russia (Oct. 13). And I’m sure the Bush/Cheney campaign would agree that “the government had absolutely nothing to do with” Chernomyrdin’s huge profits in the oil and gas business after leaving office.

Al Gore’s $10,000 tax deduction for college tuition sure reminds me of the misleading “you have won $1 million” mailers from magazine sellers. Nobody would have $10,000 more to spend on college for their children. Far from it. For most taxpayers, his proposal would only reduce taxes by $800 or so, as it is a deduction, not a credit. By stating the $10,000 figure over and over, it is clear that he intends to mislead people. We do not need another president who has such contempt for the American people that he constantly lies and attempts to mislead.

Debates are interesting, but the mere fact that one is a good debater says absolutely nothing about one’s ability as a competent, real-time decision maker. I plan to vote for a president, not a debater.
