WellPoint to Acquire Pharmaceutical Facility

WellPoint Health Networks Inc. in Thousand Oaks, one of the nation’s largest publicly traded health-care companies, said it will acquire a mail-order pharmacy fulfillment facility from RxAmerica for an undisclosed amount.

Located in Fort Worth, Texas, the facility currently fills approximately 1.6 million mail-order prescriptions per year. RxAmerica is a joint pharmacy benefits management venture between Albertson’s Inc. and Longs Drug Stores.

The transaction is expected to be completed in the fourth quarter of this year. Upon closing, the mail-order pharmacy will operate under the name of PrecisionRx.

WellPoint Pharmacy Management is the trade name of Professional Claim Services Inc., a subsidiary of WellPoint Health Networks Inc.
