A majority of the City Council expressed opposition to Measure N, the initiative that would require local voter approval for significant developments in the Carbon Canyon area and the hills east of the city.

After a heated meeting in which opponents and supporters of Measure N took the podium to speak, three council members Marty Simonoff, Lynn Daucher and Roy Moore--said they opposed measure on the Nov. 7 ballot. Mayor Bev Perry described herself as the lone supporter of an initiative she said would give people a say on the issue. Councilman Steve Vargas said he would remain neutral.

Members of the community in favor of the measure denounced a flier they received in the mail arguing that the city could be sued for millions of dollars if the initiative passed.
