State Funds to Help Local Veterans
Some Ventura County veterans who have long been shut out of the mainstream work force because of illness or disability will soon get another chance, thanks to $240,000 in state money.
The Ventura County Board of Supervisors received the money earlier this month. The funds will be distributed by the county’s Workforce Investment Board. The funds will also be available for veterans in the county who have recently been honorably discharged and need assistance in moving back into civilian life.
The Workforce Investment Board will operate in coordination with veterans’ outreach activities of the local Employment Development Department and with the county Human Services Agency’s existing Veterans Services Program. Nineteen other veterans work force programs elsewhere in the state are also receiving funds.
