The Channel Islands Ballet will hold a grand opening celebration today at its new studio on the campus of Cal State University Channel Islands from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m.

Member of the dance company will perform in the nonprofit group’s 6,400-square-foot space. The past president of the Channel Islands Ballet, Kathy Nishimori, will be honored for her support of ballet in Ventura County.

“Now we have rehearsal space, office space and costume storage space, and architecturally it’s very inspiring,” Nishimori said. “The university has been very open to the idea, very helpful and has welcomed us.”

Though the ballet group will be operating on campus, it is not affiliated with the university, Nishimori said.

The company, originally based in Ventura, serves all of Ventura County. The event costs $35, and all proceeds benefit the Channel Islands Ballet.

Cal State Channel Islands is at 1 University Drive in Camarillo. For more information about the grand opening or the 2000-2001 season, call 384-8558.
