Pair Arrested in Carjacking, Robbery

Two Fillmore men were arrested early Monday in connection with a carjacking the day before and a mini-mart robbery that occurred about 12 hours later, authorities said.

Jesus Zamora, 24, and Lino Davalos, 19, were taken into custody and booked on suspicion of carjacking, robbery and attempted kidnapping, said Eric Nishimoto, a spokesman for the Sheriff’s Department. They were being held on $250,000 bail.

Davalos is on probation for possession of a deadly weapon and burglary, Nishimoto said. Zamora has no prior convictions.

The two men attempted to carjack a Dodge Neon on Sunday afternoon about 2:30 p.m. after the owner and a friend slowed down on the 1900 block of Old Telegraph Road and offered to give them a ride, Nishimoto said.

The owner and his passenger were able to run from the vehicle as the two suspects allegedly took control of the car, Nishimoto said.

About 1 p.m. Monday, Zamora and Davalos allegedly walked into a mini-mart at 903 Ventura St. and demanded money from the cashier, Nishimoto said. Davalo allegedly threatened the cashier with a stick that had a nail attached to the end.

The cashier ran from the mini-mart and the two suspects took an undetermined amount of money from the cash register, Nishimoto said.

Deputies on routine patrol saw the pair driving the stolen Dodge Neon and arrested them after a traffic stop, he said. Soon after, the mini-mart cashier identified both as the men who held up the store, Nishimoto said.
